I know everyone is fatigued from digging out, but if you will, please dig out the fire hydrants near your home.

Fire Officials Urge Businesses and Residents to Continue Clearing the Area around Fire Hydrants
Fire-Rescue Chief Joseph Pozzo of the Loudoun County Department of Fire, Rescue and Emergency Management is urging business owners and managers of commercial buildings to clear snow from around hydrants and pathways to buildings to ensure they are accessible in the event of an emergency.

Chief Pozzo also thanked Loudoun County residents for making sure neighborhood hydrants remain free of snow, and asked for their continued assistance.

“We’ve seen a good response from the residents and appreciate local businesses keeping an eye on hydrants and building clearances,” said Chief Pozzo.

While neighborhoods and businesses dig out from the major winter storm that moved through the region this weekend, continuing near-freezing temperatures mean that much of that snow and ice will remain with us for days to come. When moving snow to clear parking lots and streets, it is vital that emergency personnel have free access to fire hydrants and dry hydrants in neighborhoods and around businesses.

For additional information, visit the Office of Emergency Management webpage at www.loudoun.gov/OEM or contact the Loudoun County Fire Marshal Office, 703-737-8600.

I would but the people who plowed our street - Townhouses - have buried the hydrant under at least 16 feet of snow. It should be their responsibility to now "un-bury" the hydrant. On another note, whou is clearling the sidewalks that are in front of the common areas that are not adjacent to any house/townhouse. Isn't this why we pay a HOA fee?

HOA fee's currently only go to removing snow in the Town homes, and only the streets. Recently we have received request to clear side walks, Fire Hydrants and mailboxes in the Town Home area. Since this is currently not budgeted for we will have give it some thought and ask the Town Home residence if they would like to raise dues to cover the additional expense. Come to the Annual meeting to discuss this more if you would like, in fact we would love everyone to come. As for dues in most recent years Snow removal is not a top five expense for the HOA. Trash, Pools and Landscaping are some of the top expenses by a long way. At the annual meeting we do go over this data.
