Supervisor Miller introduced the action item concerning the Loudoun Valley Estates traffic light at the BOS business meeting yesterday.  His draft motion was:

"I move that the Board of Supervisors direct staff to study options for, and the advisability of, a warrant study for the intersection of Gleedsville Manor Drive/Old Ryan Rd and Loudoun County Parkway, and that staff report to the Transportation and Land Use Committee the results of that study at the Committee's next scheduled meeting, and that the Committee vote a recommendation on funding the warrant study for consideration by the full board."

It passed unanimously.

This is great news IMHO. 

This intersection is so dangerous that I avoid it like the plague during rush hour.

UPDATE

Many of you may have noticed that VDOT is now actively performing a traffic study on the corner of Gleedsville and LCP. This is the next step in the process and a great step forward..

The county was notified on Monday that VDOT agreed that the intersection warranted a signal.  A letter was prepared to the Claude Moore Foundation advising them of the VDOT decision (see attachment).  County staff has been unofficially advised that Toll Brothers had assumed responsibility for this signal through the purchase of land from the Claude Moore Foundation. The Toll Brothers Loudoun Valley Estates office was copied and the county has been subsequently advised that they will start the plans upon approval by their main office.

GREAT News!!  It will be interesting to know how long this takes on Toll Brothers end.  Do you have any estimate on timeframe?

Kudos to Stevens for his quick action, in reaction to the request from the HOA.

All, Yesterday VDOT confirmed that Toll Brothers submitted a revised engineering plans for the traffic light. This is the second revision that Toll believes remedies all of the VDOT comments on the first set of plans. VDOT has committed to reviewing the plans in quickly, this review typically takes 30 days. VDOT has stated that they will review the plans sooner. If all goes well during the review we are one major step forward in getting the light installed.

I just noticed while driving on loudoun county pkwy northbound there is a traffic light that will be installed at Russell Branch Pwky intersection going towards Rt 7. I wonder "Oh! what a bummer!!" when i can hardly spot any form of life near that intersection!!! I wonder if someone has a proper justification!!!
As a long time resident of loudoun county i wonder why take such a long time to install this traffic light at Gleedesville/Old Ryan having known that Loudoun Valley Estates exist for the past 8 years and there were more than 2 accidents that took place at this intersection!!! Poor! Poor! Poor! planning to whomsoever is responsible for traffic light planning!!! This is totally unacceptable and poor service from Loudoun County/Virginia transporation department.

I think the majority of us agree with you. What is even sadder is the our politicians think this is acceptable. Stevens Miller has at least talked to VDOT & Toll on this others have said things like... this is a very long and complicated process and we need to let VDOT ensure it is completed correctly. I wont be voting for this Senator again.

We should be hearing back on the latest VDOT review of the plans within the next two weeks.

Toll has delivered a new DRAFT time line for the traffic light. Still slow but much of the slowness is due VDOT regulations and requirements. We will continue to push for earlier completion dates. Stevens Miller has been helpful in getting these new dates from Toll.

Morning,

VDOT approve the traffic light on 4/26! This is a significant step forward for this project. Next time you drive through the intersection you might notice lots of markings, the contractor will begin to install the conduit under the road for the lights within the next couple of weeks. We still have months to go but at least we have movement and some momentum.

I heard back from Toll Bros. They received the foundation boring data from their engineer yesterday. They anticipate having all of their submittals (foundation design, pole design, mast arm design, equipment design) to VDOT by the end of June. September 1st for construction start still looks good. Full operation by the end of October still looks good.

Afternoon,

So many of you have now noticed that work has begun on the LCP Gleedesville light. Toll and their contractors have installed conduit and the sensors in the roadway as of today. Toll has informed us that they have all of the needed contracts for the work ready to go. They are waiting on VDOT to approve the foundation plans before they are allowed to get permits and start the actual construction.
