After the launch of the LIG initiative at the Loudoun Valley Estates Home Owner’s Association Annual Meeting, the Open Spaces Committee (OSC) was delighted with the support for this initiative. A total of 7 projects were submitted at the meeting on April 22 and four were approved.  We expect these projects to be completed by the end of May this year

It was very encouraging to see the level of support for the initiative.  One LIG fielded 7 members at the Meeting to demonstrate their support.  One LIG group proposed to extend their own sprinkler system into the common area close to their house, and many members were prepared to plant trees themselves.

Of the three LIG projects that were not approved, two were put on hold until Toll Brothers completes their landscaping work in the proposed areas.  The remaining LIG was to improve the landscaping in the Town House Area.  The Open Spaces committee recognized the difficulty of landscaping the proposed area, due to the prevalence of rock, rather than top soil that is all too widespread in the neighborhood.  This project will be dealt with outside the LIG process and the OSC will discuss options with a landscaping professional.

In total, we shall be planting a total of over 50 trees spread over the four LIGS.  The map below shows their locations.  The OSC feels confident that with the demonstrated support, these trees will be nurtured and thrive.
We have to thank all LIG members who attended the meeting, especially as the interchange of information enabled the neighborhood to combine the activities with one contractor, rather than four, leading to projected savings of  40%.

The OSC looks forward to building on this early success.  Not only will the process improve the aesthetics of our neighborhood, it was apparent in the meeting that it has helped foster a team environment in our community.  We can all benefit from this.

Sincerly,

Open Spaces Committee
