j4kids The 2009 Americana Festival was a great success for the LVE community! We had over 20 entries for the Bike Decorating Contest! What a great opportunity for the children to participate in the parade! The parade marched around the community and included the LVE Torpedo's Swim Team, a local brownie troop and cub scout den, the Ashburn Volunteer Fire Department and our very own Uncle Sam!

  Everyone enjoyed the DJ, pony rides, clowns, sack races and egg tosses. Lunch was available from The Spicy Pickle.

Congratulations to Terri Springer for her winning Chocolate Chip cookies in the Baking Contest. But the biggest highlight of the day must have been the Pie Eating Contest! Never have you seen 25 people gorge themselves on apple pie so quickly! And would you believe the winners were brother and sister?

Many thanks to Harris Teeter for discounting the cost of the balloons, to Toll Brothers for the water donation and to Cardinal Management for donating the sodas and ice!

Yesterday was a huge success and it was in part to each of you!  Thank you so much for all of your help, thank you for working longer then scheduled, thank you for taking initiative to fix something you so that didn't look right.  Thank you for going with the flow and cleaning up half eaten apple pie.  Thank you for cleaning up after others.  Thank you for chaperoning our kids and keeping them safe in the streets.  Thank you for being patient in long lines and hot sun.

Thank you for smiling.  Thank you warming up pies and finding a food vendor.  Thank you for keeping the field games a-flowing.  Thank you for scooping sloppy ice cream.  Thank you for organizing kids into age groups for the bike contest.  Thank you for judging the baked goods (the toughest job of the day).  And thank you for dressing up in a cheap Uncle Sam costume and kicking off the parade!
