Rosa Lee Carter Budget Issues Print E-mail
RLC Fellow LVE Residents,
I attended a PTO meeting tonight at Rosa Lee Carter and have some discouraging news to share with you all. The topic of discussion was large classroom sizes and how the teachers are overwhelmed with the number of students this year. Unfortunately classroom size is very tightly coupled to the school budget. And it seems that the school budget crisis is expected to get worse next year, which will be impacting our children and our teachers.

I am not sure if you are aware but Rosa Lee has reached capacity in many classrooms and can no longer hire additional teachers due to budget constraints. This situation is expected to get worse next year as more students enroll, we will see larger classrooms, less teachers, no cost of living/salary increases for teachers, supply shortage, etc. There is also a big possibility of students being moved to surrounding schools due to these budget constraints.

One of the teachers I met at the meeting encouraged us parents to take action. She has asked that we parents voice our concerns to our Board of Supervisors (BOS). The attachment to this email will detail how we can contact them. There is a meeting, Thursday, Dec. 10 @ 6:30pm @ the LCPS Admin. Bldg. in Ashburn where we can communicate these concerns in person. I plan to attend and urge all of you too as well. I am attaching below Ms. Kendall's email for you to read for yourselves.

I encourage you all to read the attachment to this email as it comes directly from our childrens teachers. This matter has a great impact to our childrens' education and I hope you all will participate in any way you can. Remember there is strength in numbers and the more parents who speak up, the louder we will be heard.

Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions. If you can forward or communicate this message to other Rosa Lee Carter parents, it would be great. I am planning to send this message to a larger audience in the next couple of days.

Thank you Manju Lal
