The tradition started years ago (no one is really certain as to when). An Ashburn volunteer Firefighter – Jeff Weir had relocated to Ashburn from another small town. As legend would have it…. he remembered, as a child, watching Santa Claus come by his house, riding atop a fire truck & going on thru the other streets of his community.

He wanted his children to experience the same thrill and excitement. Jeff embellished the experience in the early years by adding a fire truck or two and an ambulance. Christmas carols blared from the loud speakers & Santa even tossed candy to the children along the way.
But Ashburn changed & grew –have we ever! Santa had to start his journeys the evening after Thanksgiving, as soon as it started to get dark, and he drove up & down streets till about 8:30 PM (when most children were probably ready to be tucked into bed). For a while Santa barely got finished by Christmas Eve.
Dan Davidson (Jeff’s successor, and a Volunteer Firefighter) had been trying to find a way, so that all parts of the Ashburn community got to be part of this tradition. . So many streets & so little time! Santa needed a new plan.
In 2006 the Santa Parade was born. Santa rode a designated route, (expanded this year – see map, soon to be posted on our web site) and invited the boys & girls to come out to meet him along the way.
The route will continue to expand as our community continues to grow – after all traditions only get better every year!
