Lately, a number of small children have been spotted playing on the middle of the streets riding their bicycles, karts, kick scooters, etc. Some of them at times seem to be running around with no regard to incoming and outgoing traffic. With the parents right there, all these are being ignored. This poses a big danger not only for the children, but for the drivers as well. It’s bad enough that a lot of drivers ignore the ‘stop signs’ in our community, let alone allowing our children to play on the streets. Cars and kids on the streets is a lethal combination of “an accident waiting to happen”. Parents should be more responsible. There are playgrounds around the community built specifically for our children to enjoy and at the same time keep them away from danger. Let us all be sensitive and be considerate towards the other people living in our community. As winter approaches, perhaps this might be a good time for parents to talk to their children about safety and make sure that in the next summers to come they accompany and encourage their children to use the playground a lot more instead of letting them play on the streets.
